  1. There is a book by Jerome Bernstein, Living in the Borderland, which speaks clearly to this statement. Bernstein, a Jungian analyst, believes that when we developed written language we lost our ability to speak with animals. Some people still retain this ability, but our loss of connection to myth has made it more difficult to stay connected to the soul and to individuate.
